Access

The main campus of Tohoku University is located in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Sendai is the largest city and the center of North-East(Tohoku) region. There are several ways to reach Sendai. You can fly directly to Sendai Airport on international or domestic flights from major cities, or you can travel within Japan by Shinkansen (Japan Railways’ bullet train). The Shinkansen journey from Tokyo to Sendai takes approximately two hours.

From Sendai International Airport to Sendai Station: It takes approximately 25 minutes to reach Sendai Station by Sendai Airport Access Line.

From Tokyo Station to Sendai Station: There are two main options: Hayabusa and Yamabiko. The Hayabusa is the fastest option, taking approximately 90 minutes from Tokyo to Sendai. However, all seats are reserved and the fare is slightly higher. The Yamabiko is slightly slower, with a travel time of around 120-150 minutes. It offers both reserved and non-reserved cars.

From Sendai Station: Take the subway (Tozai Line, 東西線) from Sendai Station to Aobayama Station (9 mins). Exit at North 1 for the Faculty of Science.
