「基礎研究忘れないで」　学術審が文科相に異例建議

　文部科学省の科学技術・学術審議会は９日、「基礎研究の重要性を忘れないで」と、
遠山敦子文科相に異例の建議をした。
　短期的な利益だけに目を向けて人材や予算を配分すると、日本は国際的な競争力を失
うと指摘。「研究者の自由な発想に基づく基礎研究にも幅広く投資するべきだ」と訴え
ている。
　政府の総合科学技術会議は７月、来年度の科学技術関連予算について、生命科学、情
報通信、環境、ナノテクノロジー・材料の４分野を中心に、すぐに社会に役立つ研究を
重視するとの方針を打ち出した。
　今回の建議は、これにクギをさすもの。同審議会の阿部博之会長（東北大学長）は「
諸外国も基礎研究に投資している。日本でも、評価に堪えうる研究には資源を配分する
べきだ」と話した。
