Shoetsu OGATA【尾形 庄悦】, Assoc.Professor

Research Field

Algebraic Geometry

Research Interests

Ideals defining projective toric varieties, Degeneration Theory of algebraic curves from the point of view of a relationship between topological monodromies and geometric elliptic differential equations (Few people know such relationship!), and Singularity Theory arising from compactifications of the quotient spaces of the complex bounded domains, especially, arithmetic genus defects of cusps (What is the definition in the higher dimension?)

What is Expected from Students

In the past, I used to say that “Success in mathematical research requires persistence rather than genius". However, nowadays, I has changed to say that “if you want to do mathematics with us, you need to understand the contents of the standard undergraduate textbook concerning your speciality as your preliminaries”.
