| At Narita Airport |
Take a JR (Japan Railway) train to Tokyo. The station is right at the
airport.
At the JR ticket counter, buy a ticket and reserve a seat(smoking or
non-smoking) for the N'EX(Narita Express) to Tokyo. |
Warning : On your way back to Narita airport, there are two stops in the airport; terminal 1 and 2. You need to know which terminal is yours.
| At JR Tokyo station |
Take a bullet train to Sendai. It's called Tohoku Shin-kansen.
You can buy a ticket and make a seat reservation(not necessary, but it
costs only extra 500 yen) at Tokyo Station.
But it is most advisable to do it at Narita Airport JR ticket counter at
the same time as a ticket for N'EX.
Then they probably give you tickets of good connection for N'EX and Tohoku Shin-kansen.
It takes about 10 minutes to exchange trains at Tokyo stations. (and it
takes more if you buy tickets there). |
Warning : There is more than one Shinkan-sen line leaving Tokyo station to different
destinations. (For example there is Tokaido shikansen, which is for Nagoya,
Kyoto, Osaka). Please make sure you are taking Tohoku Shinkan-sen. (Just
ask. You may show your ticket at the entrance).

| At Sendai Airport |
The airport
limousine bus from Sendai Airport to Downtown Sendai (JR Sendai Station) leaves
from bus stop 1 in the 1st floor.
When you arrive at Sendai Airport, you can easily find out the ticket vending
machine located in the arrival lobby.

| At Sendai Station |
| There is a big bus pool right at the West Exit of the station (also in
front of Hotel Metropolitan). The bus for Aoba campus leaves from the bus
station No. 9 in the West Bus Pool. The name of the bus is "Aoba-Joshi-Junkan"(Japanese).
It is written on the bus, but unfortunately only in Japanese, so you should
look for the letters "W 7-1" at the top of the front of the car. |
|
Brief information on bus
|
You get off at the station called "Rigaku-bu"(= Faculty of Science).
When they approach the stop, they announce "Rigaku-bu", but only
in Japanese. You can ask passengers for help in the car. They are mostly
going to University. The Math Institute is at a few minutes walk from the
bus stop.
In Japan, we get on the bus from the rear, get off from the front, and
pay when getting off. They give you change, but probably it is better to
prepare exact fare. (If you use bus often, you may want to buy a prepaid
card. Ask your host about it).
